The Lifestyle Consultant for Living Organic and Fit
With much thought to my writing contributions to Organic Food and Fitness, I have thought it best to start a weekly column on managing the balance between work, home-life, and everything in between.
Stress is often a common factor in our health and something that hits home in my life. My mom lived her last years very stressed and ultimately led her to medical and health issues that could not be corrected by a doctor or any medicine that was given out. So I am here to help balance out you life. Over the course of the next few weeks, months and hopefully years, I will be touching on subjects from but not limited to; vacation time, to reducing the load at work, looking for new opportunities at work and finding happiness in your ‘cube!’ This also includes balancing out your schedules, whether your family time, tv time, playtime with the kids, your workout schedule and meal planning. Finding this balance is one of the most important factors in living the Organic and Fit Lifestyle that we dream about.
What good is learning about nutrition and how to lose a few LB’s if work becomes a 60 hour a week Knightmare (threw the K in for my UCF Knights-beat Texas this weekend boys!). The reality is that more and more Americans are taking on more and more and free, spare and even down time is non existent or spent recovering from the overload.
I’ll leave it up to Wikipedia to give us some quick facts:
-The expression “work-life balance” was first used in 1986 to help explain the unhealthy life choices that many people were making
-Over the past twenty-five years there has been a substantial increase in work which is felt to be due, in part, by information technology and by an intense, competitive work environment.
-Many Americans are experiencing burnout due to overwork and increased stress.
-According to a recent study for the Center for Work-Life Policy, 1.7 million people consider their jobs and their work hours excessive
-Nationally, seventy percent say their jobs are affecting their health.
Crazy stuff and things are showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon, with the demand on the bottom dollar even more important today. Every second of lost time is a lost dollar to a company, big or small. How does this affect you Organic and Fit Life?
Please send some comments, questions to address and anything that you would like to see in this column. Here at Organic Food and Fitness, we believe that there is time to make for living the lifestyle that you want. You can beat the system with your own system, you just need to find the right highways, back roads and cross streets! Till next week!
